Freedom of speech is a hot subject in the Thai film industry right now following the recent banning fiasco surrounding Nontawat Numbenchapol’s documentary Boundary. Even more recently, Yuthlert Sippapak’s action-drama Fatherland was rumored to be the subject of a ban, but the veteran director came out and clarified that, in fact, he had decided to hold off screening the film owing to the sensitive situation in the South. One film that has seemingly escaped the wrath of the censors, however, is Paradoxocracy, the new documentary of Pen-Ek Rattanarueng which examines and questions Thai democracy. The film will be screened from Jun 24-Jul 3, 2pm and 8pm, at Paragon Cineplex and The Esplanade.
