Super Sonic

It’s testimony to the hard work of Bangkok’s growing legion of promoters that the Bangkok indie scene has been on fire lately with big gigs from the likes of The Vaccines in Jan and The Radio Dept. just two weeks ago. (Not to mention the recently announced gigs from international acts Cold Cave on May 15 and Yacht on May 13, see page 29-30). But for those with more mainstream tastes, BEC TERO is gearing up to host the Sonic Bang music festival featuring 30 bands on 6 stages on Aug 24 at Impact Arena Muang Thong Thani. Confirmed international acts so far are The Pet Shop Boys, Jason Mraz, Scandal (from Korea) and Slot Machine (TH), while others will be announced soon.      

Jazz On The Beach

After having to cancel at short notice last year, the annual Hua Hin Jazz Festival returns this year as a collaboration between the Singha Corporation and The Bangkok Fanatix event organizing company. Scheduled for May 31-Jun 1 at Hua Hin Beach (in front of the Centara Grand), the two-day outdoor festival will feature a lineup as follows: Keng, Jenny and Tong project, Nita Aartsen, Jam Jun project, June Abe Group, Infinity and ETC on May 31; and, Mellow Motif, Nung-Len band, Vietrio, Les Freres, Ton AF, 123Soul, Koh Mr. Saxman & The Soul Must Go On feat. King Pichet and Myra on June 1. Free Admission.
