In celebration of 100 years of Indian Cinema and the 65th anniversary of international relations between Thailand and India, the Indian Embassy in Thailand teams up with the Directorate of Film Festival to host the Indian Centenary Film Festival 2012 at SF World Cinema (6/F CentralWorld, Ratchadamri Rd., Bangkok) from this weekend through Oct 21. The program includes renowned Indian films selected from the past 10 years, as follows:

Oct 19, 12pm. Jalsaghar: Set as India was moving to abolish feudalism; landlord Roy has to fight to preserve his family’s legacy and wealth.
2pm. Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam: This classic Bollywood tale tells of a romantic triangle between young lovers Sameer and Nandini, and Vanraj, Nandini’s groom-to-be who decides to help the couple reunite.

Oct 20, 12pm. Kannathil Muthamittal: The story of a young girl of Sri Lankan parentage adopted by Indian couple, who seeks her biological mother during the Sri Lankan Civil War.

2:40pm. Gulabi Talkies: A woman living alone in a fisherman’s village on a small island inherits a color TV which changes the lives of the whole community.

5:05pm. Anand: Dying of cancer, Anand comes to Mumbai to live out his last days to the fullest. His zest for life rubs off on Bhaskar Banerjee, a doctor consumed by despair, and their relationship develops from doctor-patient to close friends, inspiring Bhaskar to write a book on his life.

Oct 21, 12pm. Dr Kotnis ki Amar Kahani: Based on the life of a heroic young doctor working in China during the Japanese invasion in WWII.

2:30pm. Corporate: This film explores the power games between two industrialist groups, long-standing rivals in the food products business.

5:30pm. Guide: After escaping her unhappy marriage, Rosie moves in with Raju, a guide she met on a caving trip with her wealthy ex-husband, and is able to pursue her dream of being a dancer. Their lives seem perfect until Raju becomes addicted to gambling.
