A-Ramen
This 24-hour "examination ramen" restaurant's Sathorn branch follows far-flung openings in Rama 9, Bangna and Ratchada. Given your own cubicle, you fill in an order form and slide it under a bamboo curtain. The order comes back without you seeing the server. Basic bowls are B150 before extras.
2/F. TTN Avenue, Nanglinchee Rd. Open 24 hours
Arno's
The huge success of this cheap steak specialist’s
original Narathiwas branch has triggered a new venue in Suan Phlu. Here, Arno’s bolder and bigger space is divided between Arno’s Wine Bar and Arno’s Steak, Burgers & Beers. Besides its famously pocket-friendly, 75-day dry-aged tomahawk (B1,400/kg) and 300g, bacon-laden Carnivore burger (B330), you will find the most expensive pad kaprow on this soi, made using Hokkaido sea scallops for B600.
186-190 Suan Phlu Soi 1, 02-286-3008. Open daily 11am-11pm
This one's almost unrecognizable from its
dinky sister bar in Asoke. Located above urban surf park Flow House, the upstairs bar is an inner-city oasis. Outside on the balcony, let the artificial turf, palm trees, wicker beach loungers and sound of rushing water whisk you far away from hectic city life. Pull up a stool at the long bar overlooking the wave machine, watch the tricks (and wipe-outs) below, and knock back the exotic, dark purple Stone Head with Butterfly Pea (B200) beer.
A-Square 26, 120/1 Sukhumvit Soi 26, 095-445-1465. Open daily 5pm-midnight
Fatty’s Bar and Diner has long been the go-to spot to get your grease fix. Now, owner and barbecue purist Matthew Fischer brings his deliciously calorific menu to Ekkamai with The Fat Tap—half-barbecue joint, half-craft beer bar, this spot is the real American Dream. The main event is the ribs (B450/half-rack), which are fall-off-the-bone tender and coated in a sticky, smoky glaze. Pair them with one of 12 beers on tap.
192/7 Ekkamai Soi 16, 02-391-8221. Open Tue-Sun 5pm-midnight
This fifth location by the Bangkok-based burger company sees it partner with San Diego-based Stone Brewing to bring us American food’s favorite duo: burgers and beer. Cold beer pours from eight taps, three of which rotate weekly. On the permanent draft menu are Stone staples: Delicious IPA (B185/B330), Ripper Pale Ale (B180/B320), IPA (B185/B325) and Go to IPA (B180/B320). There are also new burgers, like Cheese Secrets, in which a patty of premium fried pork or beef comes stuffed with cheese and mustard cream (B255/B275), and Three Musketeers, which replaces the bun with waffle fries.
Sena Nikhom Soi 1, 02-002-3343. Open Mon-Sat 5pm-midnight
A new, upscale sister brand to all-night izakaya favorite
Shakariki 432 has opened on Thonglor focusing on premium, seasonal ingredients from Japan. These come in dishes including deep-fried oyster (B180) and grilled salmon on tea-soaked rice (B220). There are even 10-course dinners at B3,000.
416/6-7 Thonglor Soi 14, 089-767-2780. Open daily 5pm-3am
Sushi Mori
The
austere, go-to sushi spot of Chong Nonsi’s trim business crowd has branched out to a second location with the same menu and same monthly promotion.
3/F, Gaysorn Tower, 02-014-7441. Open daily 10am-10pm. BTS Chid Lom
Mikkeller, the Danish microbrewery that opened a bar in Ekkamai in 2014, follows it up with a new Ari bar and restaurant specializing in tacos. Fun and playful, with rainbow-colored chairs and brightly painted window frames contrasting with the exposed white brick. The laidback beanbags from the lawn of Mikkeller Ekkamai also make a return, albeit in a smaller outdoor space. As for the tacos, go with the fried barracuda (B280) coated in a crispy thin batter and drizzled in spicy mayo, or the beef steak (B220) with herby chimichurri sauce.
Ari Samphan Soi 1, Phahon Yothin Rd. Open Tue-Thu 5-11pm; Fri-Sat 5pm-midnight
Ekkamai's favorite izakaya comes to Sathorn's business district. Get a frozen draft Asahi (from B120) with Japanese pub grub done right: sashimi (platter of six kinds, B730), karaage (deep-fried chicken, B180) or Kagoshima wagyu (B780). They've just opened for weekday lunch too with sets from B190.
48 Sathorn Soi 8, 02-2377537. Open Mon-Sat 11am-2pm, 5pm-midnight; Sun 5-11pm. BTS Chong Nonsi
Uma Uma
The Fukuoka ramen name that
arrived in Asoke circa 2015 has popped up in Silom with its signature Hakata-style tonkotsu ramen (B220): thin noodles in a rich pork-bone broth with a perfectly runny egg.
Narathiwas Soi 1 (Silom Soi 6), 02-023-7254. Open daily 11:30am-2:30pm, 5:30pm-12am. BTS Saladaeng
Vietnamese and More
Our
beloved Vietnamese restaurant of Khlong Toey has a second location in the golf-complex building Thaniya. Favorites pho (from B135/bowl), fresh shrimp spring rolls (B145) and nem nuong set (pork meatballs, B275) are still on the menu.
G/F, Thaniya Building, 091-739-8568. Open daily 10am-7pm. BTS Saladaeng
