It's more a social experience than traditional cinema-going

Singapore's annual open air cinema Films At The Fort returns to natural amphitheater Fort Canning Park on Aug 3-20, and like last year, they'll be screening award-winning films and provide gourmet grub and vino for the entire duration of the screenings.

The event has become very well-loved because it’s just one of the very few outdoor filmi screening events in Singapore. While we may not have a drive-in cinema anymore—the last permanent fixture was on the corner of Japanese Garden Road and Yuan Ching Road in the west of Singapore back in early '70s to mid '80s—the scene to catch films outdoors has left much to be desired. But that began to change with The Hive's small-scale Singapore Open Air Cinema Club, whose tickets just fly off the shelves the moment people catch wind of the screenings. Also exciting was the inaugural Sunset Cinema Tanjong Beach organized by the same people behind Films at the Fort held in Sentosa two months ago. And mind you, they're all very well-attended.

Now into its fifth year, Film at the Forts will be screening a total of 15 awesome films, including the brilliant Hidden Figures starring Taraji P. Henson, the award-winning musical Moonlight, the recently released rom-com The Big Sick, fun cult classic Thelma & Louise, the psychological and shocking Get Out, among many others. You can find the full list here.

Food-wise, The Providore cafe will be setting up stations serving everything from antipasti platters to organic salads and burgers. There’ll also be a bar where you can get Casillero del Diablo wines, Peroni beer and boutique ciders. You’re more than welcome to bring your own food, but not alcohol.

Gates open at 5pm and screenings start at 7:30pm. For more info and tickets, click here.
