Four New Openings by the Biggest Names in Bangkok's Bar Scene
Charted to kick off in May or early June, these projects feature some of the hottest mixologists in town
This project is a collaboration between globetrotting competition judge and instructor Ueno Hidesugu, Nick Wu (ranked 3rd best bartender in the world by World Class Cocktail Competition 2016), Colin Chia (owner of Nutmeg and Clove bar in Singapore), plus two talents from Bangkok: Ronnaporn “Neung” Kanivichiporn (owner of Backstage Cocktail Bar and ranked 11th best bartender in the world by World Class Cocktail Competition 2014) and Chennarong “Jan” Bhumichitr (senior brand ambassador, Diageo Moet Hennessy Thailand). The bar will not have a name and will be located in "a box" on Thonglor Soi 10. Opening by end of May 2017.
It is a collaboration between Sebastian De La Cruz and Philip Stefanescu (both formerly of Sapparot Goup). You might know De La Cruz from behind the bar at Thonglor's Touche Hombre, while Stefanescu was formerly the Sapparot Group beverage manager covering places like Lady Brett and UNCLE. Both promise bold drinks, most of them rum-based. Joining them is the gang from 80/20 who will be providing food we can only expect to be amazing, giving 80/20's standing. (The bar will be located next door to 80/20, in fact.) Minding the bar is Krit "Joey" Parkobdee, previously at Bronx Liquid Parlour and one of four finalists of this year's Bacardi Legacy Thailand Competition. Opening by the beginning of June.
Foodie Collection Group is involved in Vesper and Il Fumo. It is owned by the food-and-cocktail-obsessed couple Choti Leenutaphong and Debby Tang, who are also very good at keeping their secrets! All we know is it's going to be another Italian place, which makes that their third Italian place as both Vesper and Il Fumo are done in partnership with serial restaurateur and chef Luca Appino. It will open by the end of May and will be somewhere in Thonglor. These guys are known for producing very top quality bartenders, such as these two Vesper alumni: Milk Pailin who is now at Zumo St. Regis Bangkok was crowned the best bartender in SEA 2016 while Oil Wareewan, currently the head mixologist at Freebird, has also been in plenty of final rounds. So, we have no doubt that their new place is just going to be as excellent.
Brasserie Cordonnier is the latest project by Soho Hospitality, the group that already owns three places on Sukhumvit Soi 11, Havana Social, Above Eleven and Charcoal. The new place will also be on Sukhumvit Soi 11, making it Soho's empire (though they do also own an Italian restaurant in Ari, Cantina). Brasserie Cordonnier is located right next to Apoteka, just around the corner from Soho's three other places. Head mixologist, Davide Sambo has also created the whole entire signature cocktail menu using anything and everything French in the mix to go with the French cuisine. Opening by end of May.
