The month-long extravaganza will feature a slew of performances and workshops

The festival solely dedicated to contemporary dance in Singapore is returning for its eighth edition this year. M1 Contact Contemporary Dance Festival (nothing to do with the similarly named theater festival) is happening from Jun 2-Jul 7. The month-long festival organized by T.H.E Dance Company and held in collaboration with Esplanadewill feature 27 dance works and 33 workshops. 

The line-up includes local and international artists and dance companies from 15 countries, with Company Ici’bas from Switzerland opening the festival with Dance At Dusk, a production of mixed dance and circus antics as well as extracts from T.H.E Dance Company and its second company's previous productions. There'll also be 10 curated performances handpicked from 135 proposals submitted in M1 Open Stage + DiverCity, an open-call segment of the festival. Performances include the 25-minute piece Corollary by local artist Germaine Cheng, inspired by her fasination of Rube Goldberg machine; a guest performance from Fukuoka Dance Fringe Festival by Kota Kihara and Yoshika Shinohe; and BAN by Hwang Dasom and Park Shin Jung from South Korea's N.D.A Festival.

The instructors that will be conducting the lesson are Kuik Swee Boon, founder of T.H.E Dance Company; Lai Hung Chung from Taiwan, who is responsible for Kaohsiung's City Ballet project Dance Shoes from 2014 to 2016; Kota Kihara, Japan-based choreographer; and more.
