13 athletes will fly the flag in six sports.

With the 2016 Summer Olympics in the books, it’s time for the world’s Paralympians to take center stage in Rio de Janeiro. On from Sep 7-18, the 15th edition of the Summer Paralympic Games brings together more than 4,000 athletes from around 160 nations. Among them are 13 Singaporeans who will feature in six sports. From familiar names to debutants, here are Team Singapore’s representatives.

Swimming

Singapore’s swimming delegation in Rio is made up of sporting icons Yip Pin Xiu and Theresa Goh. Habitual record breakers, the duo will be looking to add to the ground-breaking gold and silver medals won by Yip in Beijing back in 2008. Yip will have the honor of being Singapore’s flagbearer during the opening ceremony.

Equestrian

Singapore’s equestrian team is led by the nation’s most decorated Paralympian, Laurentia Tan, who won three bronzes and a silver at the Beijing and London Games. Tan is joined by Gemma Foo and Maximillian Tan who also rode in London.

Sailing

Jovin Tan makes his fourth trip to the Paralympics together with first-timer, and Asia Para Games gold medal winning teammate, Yap Qian Yin.

Archery

Syahidah Alim is the first Singaporean archer to compete at the Paralympics and she’ll be buoyed by the two gold medals she won at last year’s ASEAN Para Games.

Athletics

A three-strong team of debutants includes Muhammad Diroy Bin Noordin in men’s shot put and javelin, Norsilawati Binte Sa'at in women’s 100m and 400m, and Suhairi Bin Suhaini in men’s long jump.

Boccia

Singapore has two representatives in boccia, a sport with similarities to bocce, lawn bowls and pétanque. Nurulasyiqah Mohammad Taha and Toh Sze Ning are ranked 21st and 33rd in the world respectively and seventh in the world as a pair.

The Rio 2016 Paralympics will be broadcast live on the International Paralympic Committee website and on Dailymotion. For more information on Singapore’s athletes, head to the Singapore National Paralympic Council and Team Singapore Facebook pages.
