Time travel to the old Tanjong Pagar Railway Station with this new app
SIFA's cool tour app has stories, videos and other interactive features depending on where you point your smartphone
In the lead up to the Singapore International Festival of Arts (SIFA) in August, there’s the 18-day festival The O.P.E.N. that starts Jun 17. There are a bunch of performances and exhibitions, but this surreal tour of Tanjong Pagar Railway Station, 15 Stations, is one of the highlights.
While we're also slightly confused as to what augmented reality is, here’s how it works. Once you download the app, you're given three options: Reflect, Connect and Imagine. Each walk takes you through different areas of the station and lasts 30 minutes. As you make your way, the app tells you three different stories of the people (both real and fictional) whose paths crossed on the railway line. It aims to show what the station was like during its heyday.
Our favorite bit is the interactive part. The app has a mix of videos, interviews, games and images when you point your phone at specific landmarks. So if you're on the train tracks, make sure to point your phone towards the sky as images of lanterns will fill your screen.
15 Stations is happening from Jun 18 to Jul 4. The app is free if you get The O.P.E.N Pass, which gets you into all concerts, films and exhibitions. Get your tickets here.
