Ready, set, book.

From 90s boybands and superstar DJs to pop princesses, it’s all happening in Singapore next month. Here are 8 concerts that we’re really excited about in May.

Kirin J Callinan

Kirin J Callinan (May 1)

This up-and-coming Australian artist has amassed quite a following with his unconventional often chaotic sounds and deep, haunting vocals—evident in his debut album Embracism. Known for his intense life sets, this controversial genre-bending musician will be supported by opening acts, Boy Kulisap and Mary Ocher.

Backstreet Boys

Backstreet Boys (May 2)

We can't say we've thought about them much in recent years, but now that they're coming, their songs are all coming back to us: “As Long As You Love Me”, “I Want it That Way”, “Larger Than Life”, “Shape of Your Heart” and “Show Me the Meaning of Being Lonely”…. And the list goes on. The In A World Like This Tour marks their two decade-long careers since their formation in 1993.

Hardwell

I am Hardwell (May 9)

This big time Dutch electro-house DJ, who snagged top spot in DJ Magazine’s annual Top 100 DJs poll in both 2013 and 2014, is a regular at major music events like Ultra Music Festival and Tomorrowland. He'll bebe back in town as part of his second world tour, United We Are.

Katy Perry

Katy Perry (May 11)

This international pop sensation is known for her over-the-top performances and catchy, upbeat singles like "Firework", "Teenage Dream" and "California Gurls" and she’ll bringing The Prismatic World Tour to Singapore, on the back of her super successful album Prism that has hit singles like “Roar” and “Dark Horse”.

alt-J

alt-J (May 17)

This award-winning indie outfit will be in town for a one-night-only show. They will be playing tunes from their critically-acclaimed debut album An Awesome Wave and recent hits from This Is All Yours with their signature mix of electronic, folk and indie rock sound.

Owl City

The Gathering with Owl City (May 21)

American singer-songwriter Adam Young, who's better known as Owl City, catapulted to fame with his breakout single, "Fireflies" back in 2009. Catch the talented multi-instumentalist as he performs both old and new sounds, including songs from his recently released EP Beautiful Things.

Boyzone

Boyzone (May 23)

Cue the nostalgic pandemonium. Yet another chartopping 90s boyband will be celebrating their 20th anniversary with a one-night only concert. They’ll be playing their tirade of hits like "No Matter What", "All That I Need" and “Picture of You”. Sadly, the band is now missing Steven Gately, but the four man band will no doubt tug at nostalgic heartstrings after 22 years of crooning boyband ballads.

Rachael Yamagata

Rachael Yamagata (May 29)

With a new album in tow, this American songtress swings by for a gig at the Esplanade Concert Hall. This soulful crooner first burst into the scene with her debut album Happenstance 11 years ago (has it really been that long?), with hit songs like "Be Be Your Love" and "Reason Why”. She'll no doubt be playing a mix of old favorites and new material.
