Had it with overly-sweet cocktails? Here are some of our favorites with spicy, sour and savory twists. Oh, and bacon.

Citrus with a Twist

WTF Bar & Gallery’s Tee Yai (B280)

What’s in it: El Jimador tequila, chili cinnamon syrup, lime and orange bitters and a mix of three hot sauces (regular tabasco, chipotle tabasco and chipotle-based Thaibasco from Chiang Mai).

Why you should drink it: Tee Yai (formerly known as El Guapo) is a great example of an experimental drink done right. It is sweet, citrusy, refreshing and ends with a smoky, peppery kick.

7 Sukhumvit Soi 51, 02-622-6246. Open Tue-Sun 6am-11pm. BTS Thong Lo

Namsaah Bottling Trust’s Sang Som Salted Caramel Sour (B260)

What’s in it: Sang Som, lemon, salt, caramel syrup and egg white.

Why you should drink it: The egg white does a great job of binding the fresh acidity of the lemon and sweetness from the caramel syrup; while balancing the harshness of Sang Som and letting its aromatic side shine through.

401 Silom Soi 7, 02-636-6622. Open daily 5pm-2am. BTS Chong Nonsi

More than a Bloody Mary

Osha’s Tomyam Kung (B355)

What’s in it: Ketel One, Osha’s Tomyam Bloody Mary mix and a cocktail prawn.

Why you should drink it: While not exactly like the  taste of tomyam kung, this drink is salty, acidic, a little sour and promises a powerful spicy kick. The cocktail prawn is actually a nice touch.

99 Wireless Rd., 02-256-6555. Open Mon-Sun 11am-2:30pm, 6pm-midnight

The Lounge’s Siam Mary (B320)

What’s in it: Lemon and tomato juice, vodka, lemongrass, coriander, basil, Thai chili, wasabi, black pepper and Worcestershire sauce.

Why you should drink it: This Bloody Mary spin-off adds a touch of freshness in the form of Asian herbs and citrus. It packs some serious heat, too.

G/F, The St. Regis Bangkok, Ratchadamri Rd., 02-207-7777. Open daily 7am-midnight. BTS Ratchadamri

Better with Bacon

Tribeca’s Bacon-Infused Old Fashioned (B280)

What’s in it: The classic made with bacon-infused Wild Turkey bourbon and a garnish of burnt citrus peel for extra tanginess. Oh, and a nice, crispy rasher of bacon.

Why you should drink it: The oaky taste and refreshing citrus hints are complemented by the meaty, smoky bacon. Did we mention bacon?

Nihonmura Mall, Thonglor Soi 13, 02-712-9209. Open Mon-Sun 9am-10pm

Sab Bar’s Sab Sab (B270)

What’s in it: This vodka-based drink also features Cointreau, lychee juice, grenadine, soda, seedless chili and, again, bacon.

Why you should drink it: The Isaan food here is already spicy enough, but we suggest washing it down with this refreshing, citrusy cocktail, which also boasts a peppery finish.

Opposite Seenspace, Thonglor Soi 13, 02-712-6141. Opens daily 11am-midnight
