HM the King’s birthday may be behind us, but you can still bask in that warm fuzzy afterglow. The BMA, which miraculously managed to decorate Ratchadamnoen Rd. in time to celebrate the HM’s 85th birthday, are now leaving it all plugged in until the New Year celebrations. The myriad lights can be seen from Anantasamakom Palace on Ratchadamnoen Rd., down Sri Ayudhya Rd, Rama 4 Rd. and the roads around the Grand Palace. This year there are also extra routes from Ratchadamnoen Rd., leading across Phra Pinklao Bridge down to Arun Amarin Rd. and all the way to Siriraj Hospital, where the king is staying. We recommend you see it all on bikes. And if you don’t have one of those cool fixies, you can also contact local tour operators such as Velo Thailand (089-201-7782, www.velothailand.com) who offer a B1,100 trip including a bicycle.
