Calling all fans of classic cocktails, Negroni Week returns for its third edition from Jun 5-11 and it promises to be the biggest celebration of the timeless concoction yet. With 60 participating bars serving more than 100 different cocktails, they clearly mean business. A traditional Negroni is simply made with gin, Campari and red vermouth, but in the hands of Singapore’s top bartenders, the sky’s the limit. Here’s what you should look out for.
Negronis for foodies
For Negronis with a distinct gastronomic twist,
Bread Street Kitchen is the place to go—Gordon Ramsay’s restaurant will be giving the cocktail the molecular treatment as they turn it into a soft serve ice cream. Not to be outdone,
D2TLLRY’s Sunny Garden Fizz (gin, Campari, tomato, habanero bitters, soda and “salted bubbles”) is practically an appetizer, while
The Library’s Candy Negroni (candy gin, Campari, pineapple vermouth and fairy floss) ensures you don’t have to choose between a nightcap and dessert.
Locally-inspired Negronis
Experiments with local flavors add a whole lot of fun to Singapore’s cocktail culture and you can expect plenty of that during Negroni Week.
Lucky Bar will be using pandan-infused organic gin and dried longan-infused Cinzano Rosso in its Oriental Negroni;
The Spiffy Dapper showcases curry leaf- and turmeric-infused gin, cardamom bitters and a garnish of dehydrated turmeric-seasoned mango in its Goomba; and
Ah Sam Cold Drink Stall makes the most of oolong tea-infused gin in its Cherryteagroni.
A Negroni world tour
Globetrotters looking for something a little more exotic will be impressed by the international offerings from a number of establishments.
Atlas adds the Czech herbal liqueur Becherovka to the mix in their Bohemian Aperitivo;
Vasco transports you to South America with their Monteleone (Colombian gin, corn-infused Campari, sweet vermouth and a citrus and corn reduction); and
Anti:dote’s Umami switches gin for mezcal and ups the intrigue with kombu-infused Cinzano Rosso.
Negronis at new bars
If you’ve been falling behind on checking out Singapore’s newest bars, here’s your opportunity to get up to speed. Head over to
Summerlong at Robertson Quay for their Balkan Negroni (French gin, Campari, ouzo, aquafaba and Mediterranean-spiced maple syrup) and
Crackerjack on Tanjong Pagar Road for their whiskied-up Negroni variant, Speak No Evil (whisky, Campari, Chinato vermouth, creme de cacao and a saline solution).
Cutting-edge Negronis
You can always count on
Tippling Club for an avant-garde dining and drinking experience and they don’t disappoint with their Sonic Negroni. While its ingredients are pretty standard, the Sonic Negroni spends a few minutes in a Sonicprep where high-frequency ultrasonic waves “age” it before it reaches you.
NOX, meanwhile, will apply their dining in the dark concept to create the Blind Negroni (Galician gin, Campari and sweet vermouth darkened with charcoal powder).
Negronis for a cause
What’s better than drinking awesome cocktails for a week? Drinking awesome cocktails for a week for a
good cause! As part of Negroni Week, each participating establishment will donate at least $1 for every Negroni or Negroni-inspired cocktail sold to a charity of their choice.
Prices range from $12-$32. For more information and to see a full list of participating establishments, head to the
Negroni Week website.
