The annual Singapore Heritage Festival is back this year from Apr 28 – May 14, but if you’re one of those expecting the soon-to-disappear Sungei Road flea market and Rochor Centre to take centrestage, think again, as SHF is focusing on Caldecott Hill instead. More specifically, the Caldecott Broadcast Centre will be open as a venue for the public to visit and it is where a number of their programmes will be held as part of SHF Takes Over!.

The idea behind SHF Takes Over!, introduced last year, is to allow the public to visit inaccessible or closed off places, which is a great idea, but seriously, there are many better choices other than Caldecott Broadcast Centre, especially with Dakota Crescent estate having been featured last year.

In any case, if you're still interested, you can expect go on a walking trail of Caldecott, check out reruns of old Mediacorp TV shows and be able to catch site-specific performance Studio 6 by Cake Theatrical Productions' education and outreach arm, Sweet Tooth. Lastly, if like us, you're old enough to remember what SBC as an acronym stands for, you will be able to relate to the TV50 exhibition, a throwback to iconic Mediacorp dramas, costumes and more.

But be rest assured that the programming doesn’t stop at Caldecott. They have activities planned in neighborhoods including Bukit Pasoh, where puppetry, lion dance, martial arts and music performances will fill the streets; and Little India, that will once again be the spot for art installations and murals, as well as a food trail organised by Singaporean celebrity chefs.
