The bar downstairs of VIE Hotel just got a revamp. VIE Bar’s (117/39-40 Phayathai Rd., Bangkok, 02-309-3939. BTS Ratchatewi. Open daily 6pm-1am) theme is now “haute couture,” which translates into a mix of kitsch (fur chairs, mannequin lamps) and glitz (wall light panels, and plenty of reflective surfaces). We’re not sure about the big screens showing FashionTV but we do like the possibility of ordering snacks from Chef Yoji Kitayama’s kitchen upstairs.

Speaking of fashion-themed bars, Vogue Magazine is set to open bars in Singapore and Bangkok. Here, the Vogue Club will be at Mahanakorn’s mini mall (you know, the construction site right by BTS Chong Nonsi), alongside Dean & Deluca and, possibly, Bangkok’s very first Joel Robuchon (the Michelin mogul) restaurant. And if you’re really into magazine-branded places, Vogue will also be in Dubai while GQ Magazine is opening cafes in Singapore and Dubai.

Finally, we have a clearer idea as to what Ku De Ta will look like—and no, it’s not a rooftop bar. It’s a lifestyle complex, kind of like a hotel without rooms. Occupying the two top floors of office building Sathorn Square (39-40/F, corner of Sathorn and Srinakarin roads, BTS Chong Nonsi), it will be made up of bars, restaurants, meeting rooms and a members-only club. They’re all designed by AVROKO with pretty distinct themes, but the overall effect (at least from the renderings we were shown) is rather lavish and exotic, mixing influences from Bali and Indochina. As for the century-old hotel-turned-embassy sitting between W Bangkok and Sathorn Square, its next incarnation remains a top secret. Ku De Ta is charted to open somewhere between April and June 2013 but we’ll keep you posted when we find out more.
