Two killer international indie gigs that are almost definitely happening this year
It's going to be a fun but expensive winter.
Following concert announcements from Death Cab for Cutie and some other washed-up stars, Bangkok indie fans finally have some fresh sounds to look forward to.
The first date to jot down is Nov 26, when gig organizer Have You Heard? presents US electro artist Neon Indian at Live RCA. Mexican-born Alan Palomo burst onto the indie scene in 2009 with his album Psychic Chasms, full of homespun "chillwave" tracks with titles like "Deadbeat Summer," "Mind, Drips" (watch below) and "Should Have Taken Acid With You." Early bird tickets are B1,200, with support on the night from locals DCNXTR and Gym & Swim. More details here.
The second is Dec 9 but the details are a whole lot more shady. A new FB presence, Alterverse, has posted a series of cryptic images of fruits and other garish looking food, which on closer inspection turn out to be snippets from the latest album cover from inventive US post-rock group Battles. The three-piece is currently touring the world on the back of its third album, La Di Da Di. Stay tuned for more details.
The two shows join a packed schedule of winter music fests, headed by the likes of Wonderfruit and Stone Free, over the coming months.
