It's one action-packed weekend we're heading into. Besides the festival of banana-leaf boats and pyrotechnics (Loy Krathong, Nov 21) on Sun, tonight sees a host of events from The Charlatans Gig and DJ Die to Silom Club Crawl and stage productions Horse and Sam Sao Sam Sam.

On Saturday, the Bangkok International Design Festival kicks off under the unifying theme of “love and friendship.” Held until Nov 30, the ten-day event features design-driven events from workshops, talks, seminars and exhibitions to avant-garde gigs and a mini-film festival. This fourth edition is bolstered by the government’s creative economy schemes and leaves its traditional home at Siam Discovery for new digs all over the CBD: the Bangkok Art and Culture Center, CentralWorld, TCDC, Siam Square and even RCA and The Metropolitan Hotel. Visit www.bangkokdesignfestival.com for details.

For a spot of extreme sports, head to Ripcurl Wake & Music Festival. The event is entirely free. Save yourself a trouble and hop onto the shuttle bus provided (also free).

Or if you prefer a breezy, chilled-out kind of evening, just head to one of the many beer gardens around town.
