You've probably heard the good (if surprising) news that we actually have Thai athletes at the Sochi Winter Olympics 2014 in Russia. And that the only female is Vanessa Mae, the world-famous Thai-Singaporean British violinist. Her first event is on today. The only problem is that there's no live broadcast of her competition on terrestial TV in Thailand or on the web!

UPDATE: Vanessa is currently last, about 27 seconds slower than the fastest time and 8 seconds slower than the next slowest skier. http://www.sochi2014.com/en/alpine-skiing-ladies-giant-slalom-1st-run

The Olympics have been running for more over a week now and so far we’ve heard very little about Thailand or our superstar violinist.

But finally that time has arrived.

Competing under her father's surname, Vanessa-Mae Vanakorn, 35, will today participate in the qualifying round of the Alpine Skiing which starts at 12:30pm Thailand time. If she passes to the final, we will be able to cheer her again at 4pm today, as she looks to grab her first gold medal.

Unfortunately, there's no live broadcast of her competition on terrestial TV in Thailand or even via True Visions. Moreover, http://www.youtube.com/user/olympic/sochi2014 is blocked here too.

But you can probably catch it via a live stream online or watch the BBC coverage if you're signed up to Thai Expat TV. If you not you can keep an eye on how she gets on at www.sochi2014.com/en/alpine-skiing-schedule-and-results.
