Singapore is hosting its very own exciting comic-con this September
Lots of exciting artists visiting this year.
While it may be a little tough to take the annual pilgrimage to the mecca of all comic-cons, which was held last month—San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) is one of the most high anticipated events in the entertainment industry every year—Singapore too has its own version. It may not be as star-studded or packed with exclusive film trailers, but it’s a start.
The ninth annual Singapore Toy, Game and Comic Convention (STGCC) will turn the entire Sands Expo and Convention Center into a melting pot of pop culture, filled with local and regional cosplayers, die-hard collectors and more. Making an appearance this year is comic artist Phil Noto, who’s had more than 10 years of experience in making animated movies at Walt Disney. He’s also done work for titles like Batgirl, Superman and Star Wars: Poe Dameron.
Jon-Paul Kaiser, known for his iconic black and white character figurines, joins in this year's line-up, along with cult favorites Brooke Allen who is known as the artist and co-creator of the award-winning female-positive series, Lumberjanes, and creative director and co-founder of tokidoki, Simone Legno.
Other artists and novelists who’ll be present at this year’s STGCC include character designer and manga artist Haruhiko Mikimoto, digital artist Sakimichan, graphic novelist Emma Rios who’s illustrated for Marvel’s Doctor Strange and Amazing Spiderman), Nick Spencer, who’s currently working on a slew of Captain America comics; comic book author, playwright and screenwriter Tom Taylor, who is responsible for Marvel’s Superior Iron Man and DC’s Injustice: Gods Among Us and a whole lot more. For the first time this year, STGCC is hosting a PC gaming tournament in collaboration with Mountain Dew.
