The Peranakan Museum launches an exciting campaign involving local musical acts The Observatory, Kiat from Syndicate and AION and a public music production competition.

The Peranakan Museum is bringing together three top local musical acts—The Observatory, Kiat from Syndicate and AION—and hold a music production competition open to the public in their unique campaign titled Creative Destruction.

Organizers have conceptualized this campaign based on Lee Mingwei’s art installation, Luminous Depth, which explores the theme of rebirth. One interesting feature of this campaign is the idea of creating something new out of the broken. Participants will be asked to break a ceramic work of art and, from that, symbolically conceive a new artistic beginning.

Participants who want to take part in the competition will have to go to the Creative destruction microsite and download six sample files that consist of crashing sounds and a track from Schubert. They will then have to create a two minute long clip from at least one of the samples and upload it to the site to submit their entry. The top 10 finalists will be invited down to a meet and greet session at an event called After Hours at the Peranakan Museum: Creative Destruction on September 13. Deadline for submissions is September 8.

Leading by example will be The Observatory, Kiat from Syndicate and AION who will showcase their own works based on the samples on August 30-31 at Night Festival 2013.
