I-S Weekend: What's on this Jul 18-20
DJ gigs, ballet shows and a spot of sports: here's what we think you should do this weekend.
There's never a shortage of things to do around town, and this weekend is no different. We pick an eclectic list that's got one-off gigs, brand new openings (or reopenings, in the case of the magnificent Victoria Theatre) and a hotel art fair, too.
This popular fair drapes over 2,000 works all over the walls and surfaces of ParkRoyal on Pickering, with a special focus on Russian artists this time. There will be live painting, art talks, a closed art auction, matryoska (like the dolls) painting sessions and even lucky draws.
Chicago post-metal trio Russian Circles, known for their visceral, atmospheric sound and hits like "Schipol" and "Cheyenne", are in town to promote their latest album, Memorial.
A special collaboration between Darker Than Wax and Good Times, this edition of 'Beats N Beyond' meshes the freshest future soul, bass, house & garage, modern funk, hip hop and dub tunes. Expect special appearances from the collective's co-founder Kaye and guest DJ Archie from Jakarta.
Award-winning stage actor Ramesh Meyyappan provides a fresh take on the classic tale of Madame Butterfly, told through theater and puppetry.
Get a sneak peek at the newly refurbished Victoria Theatre and Victoria Concert Hall. Participate in a series of guided and self-guided tours and enjoy special performances by the Singapore Symphony Children's Choir, T'ang Quartet and more.
Classical and contemporary ballet at SDT's annual outdoor dance fest includes works by George Balanchine, Val Caniparoli, Edwaard Liang and Edmund Stripe, and a world premiere by Natalie Weir.
Watch the Singapore Slingers take on Indonesia's Laskar Dreya in this ASEAN Basketball League match that's bound to keep everyone at the edge of their bleachers.
And if you just want to sit back and watch movies, we've got strong opinions on that, too, of course.
