Here are four reasons why the east of Singapore is hotter than ever
It's home to the city's only cable-ski park.
The east of Singapore has its idyllic charms, what with its hipster cafes and traditional eateries all packed togehter within an area. But now it's getting even more exciting, especially with the new cable-ski park and the exciting One Solid Day Out. Here are some reasons why you should consider getting on the train to head east.
Held at the old Kallang Airport, a massive lineup with great performers and artists from the local urban arts communities and entertainment scene are coming together for One Solid Day Out. From 1pm all the way till the wee hours of the morning, local collectives like Syndicate, Solid Gold Sound System Dark Than Wax, Pushin' On, Lion Steppaz Sound will take turns to drop some crazy beats at the iconic spacealong side DJs, singers and rappers such as Aldrin, Mr. Has, Oliver Osborne, Sam Rui and others. Of course, a festival wouldn't be complete without fringe activities: from live graffiti paint-off and a dance competition, you're bound to find something to do.
Singapore Wake Park resumes operations after a two-year hiatus and a change in management. Riders can wakeboard, kneeboard and cable-ski thanks to the three-state-of-the-art overhead cable systems available at the facility. The new cable system sees six towers, six evenly-spaced carriers and features various obstacles for the more seasoned rider to flaunt their skills. And thanks to the new floodlights that have been installed, you'll be able to make the most out of the day and ride well into the night. If you are hungry from all the riding, you can always head over to the park’s cafe bar, Coastal Rhythm, and try their Battered Otah Sticks or their Mac n’ Cheese, or enjoy a Heineken or Erdinger draft beer, to cool yourself off.
We were thrilled when Bjorn Shen opened his temple of Thai chicken, Bird Bird, with its trashy-chic decos and his Thai-inspired menu, but sadly, not as many people shared our enthusiasm as we would have liked Running for about a year, they have closed shop and moved to Frankel Avenue with a whole new (and simple) concept with fried chicken still being the theme (they'll be serving up American-style fried chicken served with waffles). But with Bjorn Shen, we believe there will be a twist, if his invasion at Loof is any indication.
