Local establishment,
Plain Vanilla Bakery, has turned its Tiong Bahru flagship store into an outdoor garden, and yes, that includes grass and picnic mats. They're bringing the summer indoors with workshops, film screenings and exhibitions for their 77-day long picnic event,
Picnic Days, which lasts till
Aug 28.
With screenings that are free, you can watch some of the upcoming documentaries they've handpicked, such as Jiro Dreams of Sushi on Jul 17, based on an 85-year-old sushi master and his famous restaurant in Tokyo, and Barisa on Aug 14, which covers the journey of thousands of baristas who compete every year to see who can make the best coffee to win the National Barista Championship.
Take part in their workshops that'll teach you to create insta-worthy images of your food and lifestyle, or try your hand at printing your very own traditional Japanese wrapping cloth. Other workshops include coffee and chocolate tasting, coffee cupping workshops and more. There's also an exhibition by local artist
Pearlyn Sim, which features a series of polychromos drawings inspired by natural landscapes and the concept of Utopia.
And if you're still feeling the heat despite being indoors, get in line for some ice cream, brought to you by
Island Creamery. They'll be selling some of their signature flavors, including two limited edition ones that are inspired by Plain Vanilla.
