Get a taste of Latin America in Singapore this month
Time to get your salsa on.
Sometimes, you don't even have to leave Singapore to experience some of the world's different cultures, especially when there are festivals that take you around the world with its selection of national films, a bunch of events that let you try the different food and drinks from different countries, Japanese food enclaves, two different Michelin-starred restaurants from Japan and Hong Kong opening at Pacific Plaza, and so much more to check out. This month, immerse yourself in the zesty culture of Latin America and these three events.
Dress up and make sure whatever you’re wearing is salsa-friendly as Post Bar is going to have an electric Latino Night. Have a boozy-fuelled night with their selection of drinks like the Cuban Mojito, classic margarita and, if you’re a go-getter, tequila shots. Latin singer Martin Elias Reyes will be performing while salsa dancer Diantha D’Cotta will be teaching you a few salsa moves so you’ll be prepared to hit the dancefloor with finesse.
Salsa Under The Stars is a monthly affair that happens at the trendy Kult Kafe, but this edition would be the last one for this year before it goes on a possible hiatus. Just like its past events, you can expect the resident DJs to spin feisty salsa, reggaeton and cha cha tracks. Cheryl Wu, who recently launched her very own dance studio, will be conducting a 45-minute bachata workshop, so grab your beau and dance under the starry night.
One of the most democratic film festivals in town, the fourth edition of the Keppel Latin American Film Festival (KLAFF) will take place at Golden Village Suntec City. The festival is hosted by the Resident Embassies in Singapore of Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Chile, Cuba, Mexico, Panama, Venezuela and Uruguay, so expect a plethora of movies such as the highest grossing horror film in Venezuela, The House At The End of Time and Habanastation which won the best of the fest award at the 2011 Traverse City Film Festival.
