27 events you don't want to miss in Bangkok this October
This month's filled with runs, fairs, markets and some very cool indie concerts.
Yellow Claw, one of the biggest EDM DJs out there, is taking over Ztudio Live Hall at 9pm. The DJ’s hip-hop and trap-focused set has previously rocked the stages of Tomorrowland in Belgium, EDC in Los Angeles and Amsterdam Music Festival, making this one of the ultimate ways to pregame for the upcoming Waterzonic festival in November.

Returning for its sixth year to celebrate all things related to biking, the International Bangkok Bike will be selling the latest bicycle models, biking gear and bike equipment from Bangkok’s best manufacturers.

Award-winning photographer Cherwood Sakolaya has captured the daily lives of people around the famous park in a series of dramatic black and white photos. The collection portrays the simplicity of Thailand’s identity from a bygone era that still survives in the streets of the Old Town today.

Alec Monopoly's “Retrospective” will showcase more than 30 pieces of the artist’s work including a live installation of a triptych mural. Alec is an LA-based street artist who is known for his twisted pop culture characters, as well as collaborations with Ultra Music Festival, Avicii and Madonna.

Kraisak Chirachaisakul, known for his expertise in mezzotint, exhibits over 50 prints and watercolor paintings, inspired by HM The King.

Happening Magazine's annual festival is back for a day and night of celebrations to showcase a new generation of artists and entertainers. Expect all things indie, from live music by Stoondio, Abstraction XL and Monomania to screenings of works by Thailand’s up and coming animators from Indy Tla' Frame. Young designer brands like Troopers, Fluffy and Aberable will also have booths.

Returning for its 13th year, this festival takes place simultaneously in multiple cities over five continents, showcasing some 60 short films. This year, Thailand is represented by two film professionals on the local jury, along with eight Thai short films including Napat Tangsanga’s Gen A, Aroonakorn Pick’s We Used To Love Each Other and Nitaz Sinwattanakul’s Deleted.

Bangkok indie bands Gym and Swim, Jelly Rocket, Wave And So, Fwends, Phum Viphurit and The Whitest Crow and Masterbass perform songs inspired by some of the biggest names in indie pop music like Arctic Monkeys, Coldplay, Disclosure, The Kooks and Two Door Cinema Club.

In association with Virgin Active, this marathon is claiming to be the “First Ever National 100% Green Marathon in Thailand” with its environmentally-aware organization to limit trash and energy use. All the proceeds will be used to provide sports equipment and trainers for children in need. Running distances offered are 4.1, 10.5 and 21km.

As part of the International Festival of Dance and Music, the famed Malandain Ballet Biarritz from France performs this ballet classic scored by Prokofiev and choreographed by Thierry Malandain, who was named Best Choreographer at the Taglioni European Ballet Awards 2014 in Berlin.

The story of the struggles and love lives of the famed Siamese twins, who exceeded all expectations and led successful lives beyond the confines of Siam. Directed by Bhanbhassa Dhubthien and starring pop singers Parn Thanaporn, Tachaya Prathumwan from The Voice Thailand, Ah-Eye from The Voice Kids and members of pop-opera band Fivera.

Hosted by local house and techno doyen Coran, along with the Kolour crew, Free Open Air returns for its second installment of daytime partying. Expect quality food trucks, techno tunes, craft beer and plenty of fresh air amid a laidback party atmosphere.

Kicking off at midnight, this charity marathon sees a mix of international and local professional runners coming together each year. All proceeds will be donated to the Chalerm Prakiat HRH Princess Sirindhorn School and Baan Gerda. Running distances offered are 6 or 12km.
