From indie-folk to chart-topping French house, there are upcoming concerts for everyone (except Primal Scream fans).

Gig Updates

While everyone was having a great Songkran holiday, our music scene got shaken up. Let’s start with the bad news as the Godung crew unexpectedly cancelled Primal Scream Live in Bangkok on May 10. They said the band called off their Asia tour after the cancelation of the Tokyo Rocks Festival. Purchased tickets can be refunded at Thaiticketmajor branches from now through Apr 30. The Supersweet crew also has some slightly sad news: Siam Society refused to hold The Dodos Day Fest (May 18) because selling alcohol is prohibited at the venue. Wouldn’t want to mix high-brow culture and booze, now would we. However, the gig is still on and has moved to Centerpoint Studio. Same dates. And now the good news. Canadian garage duo Japandroids just revealed their upcoming Asia tour and Thailand slots in Aug 14 at Sonic Ekkamai.

Guetta Got Real

At the end of last year, a poster announcing David Guetta Live in Bangkok on Jan 29 at Rajamangala Stadium was doing the rounds. Were you crushed when you found out it was a fake? The solid party collective Retox Session and AG Production have now teamed up to bring the world’s top DJ and producer David Guetta for his Bangkok debut on May 9 at BITEC Bangna—for real! Tickets are B1,400 (early birds) up to B2,000 (VIP) from Thaiticketmajor.

Alternative Orchestra

One collaboration we’re keeping a keen eye on is the one between Pod Thanachai, frontman of the 90s alt-rocker Moderndog, and fresh-faced conductor Trisdee na Pattalung in Twogether Pod & The Orchestra by Majung on May 25 at Thailand Cultural Centre. Pod selected songs from both his Boyd&Pod project like “Lom Hai Jai” and “Hang Klai Lue Kern” and from Moderndog like “Tim,” “Ta Sawang” and “Sing Tee Mai Kei Bok” and let Trisdee rearrange them in a symphonic style which will be performed by the Siam Sinfonietta orchestra. Tickets are B1,500-3,000 from Thaiticketmajor.

The Little Big Gig

We are pleased to welcome new music collective Sevendice to our music scene. Their first event, Remind Me of 90s, at Sonic Ekkamai on May 31, features three legendary acts, Praw, See Tao Ter and the grunge queen Ornaree Chularatana before sending off the insomniacs with a DJ set from DJ Suharit Siamwala. Wait there’s more: a special cover set with Ornaree performing Nirvana, Praw doing some Manic Street Preachers and See Tao Ter as Pulp. Early bird tickets are B500 available at Sonic, Moose and Cosmic Café while it will be B600 at door. On the next day (Jun 1), the Popscene Live Session is bringing Canadian garage duo The King Khan & BBQ Show to Cosmic Café with support from The Standards and Plastic Section. Tickets are B400 at door.
