The winter markets, yuletide feasts and panto performances to celebrate Christmas early in Bangkok

Sansiri's Winter Fest 2014 returns this Dec 13-14 from 4pm-10pm to Sukhumvit Soi 77 (BTS On Nut), where it takes over the San Samran bridge to offer Bangkok’s version of a very slow-life Christmas fair. Expect popular food trucks as well as other food stalls by the usual popular local eateries, plus arts and craft workshops, a family play yard area and more.
If you’re never up in time for the Sunday Spring Epicurean morning market, now’s your chance to see what the fuss is about. The Spring Epicurean Market Annual Festive Night Market takes place on evening of Dec 14 from 4pm-9pm at Spring Summer restaurant, where the garden will be filled with beautiful lanterns as well as artisanal offerings from small-scale food producers. There’ll also be Christmas mulled wine by Hopsession, Christmas pudding and other seasonal food favorites to set the festive mood.
DINNERS
Grab your suits and evening gowns for chef Edoardo of Luce restaurant’s early Christmas charity dinner on Dec 18 at Eastin Grand Hotel, organized by the Thai Italian Chamber of Commerce and Camilian Hospital. The Bridge of Hope Christmas Charity Dinner is limited to only 400 guests, with proceeds going towards the Camilian Home for children living with disabilities and HIV. For some Christmas roast turkey with all the traditional trimmings, the Foreign Correspondents’ Club of Thailand is holding its FCCT End of Year Party on Dec 12 (B600 per person). Expect live music from the club’s regular Friday night band, Tonic, as well as lots of bargain wine. PERFORMANCES
For a taste of the British pantomime tradition, the Bangkok Community Theatre presents Cinderella: A British Pantomime. Performances run from Dec 5-14, with Christmas-themed food throughout each night.
For a more soothing alternative, head to A (Silent) Night with Harmonic Noises on Dec 13 at Sala Sudasiri Sobha, the first official concert by the all-girl choral group. Expect some festive Christmas tunes, as well as musical hits from Wicked and Sister Act. Pre-show cocktail reception is at 6:30pm.
