The first-ever Singapore Contemporary Art Show comes to town
With pieces by Yayoi Kusama, Damien Hirst and Andy Warhol on display, and a two-for-one deal on tickets.
Everyone's talking about Singapore Art Week, with its exhibitions, walking tours and vaguely related arty parties. This year, there's something extra: the Singapore Contemporary Art Show (Jan 22-24) at Suntec Singapore Convention & Exhibition Centre. The SCAS is in Singapore for the first time, and is a mid-tier show carrying work priced from $10,000 to $100,000.
There's work by big name artists like Keith Haring, Damien Hirst and Andy Warhol on sale. On the local front, there's calligraphy work by local artist Simon Wee, Peranakan-style prints by Andre Tan and Ng Woon Lam's colorful impressionistic watercolors. (Simon Wee will also be conducting a demonstration painting on canvas and linen with a Q&A at 2pm and 3:30pm on Jan 22).
There is also "China Encounters," a special spotlight on Chinese artists (duh) whose work that will potentially increase in value (Su Xiaobai, Zhang Qing and Wang Min are in this one).
Big-deal artist Yayoi Kusama (the Whitney and the Tate Modern have done retrospectives on her work) will be exhibiting here, too.
Tickets are $30 for a day pass and $54 for a three-day one. You can get a two-for-one deal at the official website or on Sistic.
