4 charity runs to sign up for in Singapore
Here's a heart-friendly way to be good.
From causes like cancer and helping out underprivileged children, here's how you can help these charities (and also your waistline).
Organized by alumni of the NUS Business school, this run raises funds for the NUS Business School Study Bursaries (which is for students who are in need of financial aid), while supporting the Boys' Town and Muscular Dystrophy Association of Singapore. There are 5km and 10km runs around the campus. If you're not interested in sweating it out, you can find out how to donate to the two charities here. 5pm, National University of Singapore (NUS) Business School Mochtar Riady Building, $40-50
The 23rd Run For Hope is organized by the Four Seasons Hotel Singapore, Regent Singapore and the National Cancer Centre Singapore (NCCS). Choose to run either the 3.5km or 10km route, all in the name of cancer research. As this run is strictly for charity, no medals will be given out. But, hey, it's for good cause. 7am, The Promontory at Marina Bay, $55.
The famous Terry Fox ran 143 days and completed 5,373 km in 1980 to promote cancer awareness. Now in its 35th year, the run in Singapore is a non-comepetitive 5km and 10km run is organized by the Canadian Association of SIngapore. Registration is free, but you can buy a t-shirt or donate to the run to help out this cause. Most of the money goes to the Singapore Cancer Society for cancer research. If you have a pet, you can bring it along, too. 7:30am, East Coast Park, free.
The Green Corridor Run is the last run to ever take place there, so if you can't make the first two, then this one's really your last chance. This 10.5km route stretches from Keppel Road to Bukit Timah/Rifle Range Road. You can register as an individual or a team. There's a special category this year called the Keppel Land Water Challenge, which coincides with World Water Day. Participants carry three to five liters of water across the same distance to a ceremonial well. $1 will be donated for each liter poured in, to raise awareness for people with difficulty accessing portable water. 8am, Keppel Road, $58-52.20 for individuals and team respectively.
