A toast to the water of life.

While one doesn’t really need a special occasion to drink whisky, it’s good to know that two bars in Singapore will be hosting events for World Whisky Day on May 21.

Founded in 2012, World Whisky Day is a celebration of the spirit regarded as “the water of life”. Taking place on the third Saturday in May each year, celebrations can be everything from a simple get-together with friends over a few drams or an expansive tasting of old and rare single malts. And regardless of how you enjoy your whisky – neat, on the rocks, with water, in a cocktail or with simple mixers – there are no judgements. It’s a celebration that welcomes whisky devotees of all levels, from beginners to connoisseurs.

CHIJMES establishment The Single Cask will be hosting The Battle of the Independents from 5pm on May 21, pitting six independent whisky bottlers against each other. You can sample all six for $88 and decide for yourself who comes out tops.

Over at La Maison du Whisky Singapore, they’re making a weekend of World Whisky Day with festivities on May 21-22. Special cocktails will be available for $21 while their educational World Tour Flights will range from $25 to $150 a set. If you’re buying whisky for takeaway, you’ll get a 10% discount on your second bottle (excluding Collectors bottles).
