This Feb 13-14 sees the debut of Bangkok’s first "ideas festival," Bangkok Edge, which will feature more than 40 cultural, entertainment and educational activities spread across Museum Siam, Chakrabongse Villas and Rijini School over one weekend.

Taking place from noon-midnight each day, the program is packed with talks, workshops, film screenings, music performances and art exhibitions – all entirely for free.

Arguably, the event’s highlight is its “idea sharing” talks similar to TED events, at which 43 local and international experts from various fields are invited to share thoughts on various topics. Guest speakers include architect Duangrit Bunnag, graffiti artist Alex Face, novelist Veeraporn Nitiprapha, journalist Joe Cummings, non-fiction author Jim Algie, former Time Out Bangkok editor Philip Cornwel-Smith and many more big names.

For those interested in a more hands-on learning experience, 11 workshops are on offer over the weekend from cultural experts such as Bo.Lan’s Chef Bo Songsivasa, (BK's resident) cartoonist Kathy Macleod, tea-maker Kenneth Rimdahl and modern designer group Siam Life, to name a few.

To round off each night, kick back with plenty of live music from the likes of Hugo, Palmy, Bangkok International Molam band and Lek Greasy Cafe, as well as out-door screenings of independent films about Thailand’s various subcultures including Stories of Hua Lamphong and Y/Our Music.
