[Sponsored] With many still buzzing from the Singapore leg of the World Rugby Sevens Series earlier this year, it’s time to gear up for another weekend of thrilling rugby. The 69th edition of the Singapore Cricket Club International Rugby Sevens (SCC 7s) takes place from Nov 4 to 6, and we can’t wait for the action to kick off. Here are seven reasons why you should be excited too.

The big teams

Last year’s SCC 7s was the biggest yet with 24 teams from 11 countries battling it out for the Ablitt Cup. Fans can expect more of the same this year with top teams like England, France, The Penguins and the flying Fijians from Daveta already confirmed for the event.

The opportunity to meet Olympic medalists

Rugby sevens made its Olympic debut at Rio 2016 with Fiji securing their first ever gold medal in a memorable tournament. Four members of the all-conquering Fijian team will play for Daveta with the team coming to town early for a friendly match against a Singapore selection on Oct 29. Silver and bronze medalists from Great Britain and South Africa will also feature at the SCC 7s.

The local heroes

While the visiting teams might get all the headlines, we can’t forget about Singapore’s own representatives on the Padang. Get behind the Singapore national team, the Singapore Cricket Club team and up-and-coming young talents in the schools and colleges tournament.

The fans

As any rugby fan will tell you, half the fun of a sevens tournament is the atmosphere in the stands. Expect crazy costumes, plenty of singing and, of course, great Guinness.

The history

History is always in the air at the SCC 7s and there’s a fascinating story at every turn—the Singapore Cricket Club is Singapore’s second oldest sports club and the SCC 7s is the oldest tournament of its kind in the region.

The affordable tickets

Early bird tickets are now available from APACTix with a three-day pass priced at just $20 until Oct 27. Tickets at the door will cost $30.

The Guinness Bar

The best place for a drink at the SCC 7s is the Guinness Bar—the longest Guinness Bar in the region. The bar offers one of the best vantage points to watch the tournament unfold, with perfectly-poured pints of Guinness always within easy reach.
