From a new all-night happy hour to a gathering of Singapore’s best cocktail bars

If the two public holidays this month aren’t enough to get you celebrating, then these events and bar openings are sure to have you toasting to the merry month of May.

Lulu’s Lounge is now open

A new entry by SJS Group—of Pangaea and Bang Bang fame—in partnership with The Prive Group, Lulu’s Lounge takes on a 1960s New York back alley club theme—imagine flickering neon signage and vintage-modern furnishings—suited for a classy night out with a classic cocktail or wine in hand. Bottle service is available, but presented with more elegance. Patrons can jive to an eclectic mix of sounds that range from live acoustic performances to retro DJ sets. We are especially eyeing the alfresco garden area decked with fairy lights.

Tiki cocktails are taking over Capella Singapore

Capella Singapore is the place to be for all tiki cocktail aficionados from May 4 to 7 when the resort welcomes Daniele Dalla Pola from Nu Lounge Bar in Bologna, Italy. A rum specialty bar, Nu Lounge has ranked among the world’s top 100 bars while Dalla Pola himself has picked up international awards for his bartending expertise. Taking up residence at Bob’s Bar, Dalla Pola will mix signature drinks like the Kama’aina’ (medley of aged rums and tropical fruits) and the Nu Mai Tai (Nu Lounge rum blend, aged Martinique rhum, orange curacao and passion fruit puree). Each cocktail will be priced at $20.

In addition to his stint at Bob’s Bar, Dalla Pola will conduct a tiki masterclass on May 4 ($48) and make cocktails for Sunday brunch at The Knolls on May 7 ($148). Bob’s Bar will also host a Hawaiian night on May 5 featuring live Polynesian music and a spread of barbecued meats. To make reservations, call 6591-5047 or send an email to [email protected].

Phat Cat Laundry is serving up a taste of the Philippines

Located on the fringes of Chinatown, this laundry-themed bar is known for Asian-fusion dishes and innovative cocktails like their red tea rum-based Teh Botol. Come May 11, three Filipino bartenders will hold court here—including David Ong from The Curator in Manila—for Tres Papas: The Filipino Invasion. The trio will be mixing cocktails with Don Papa Rum.

Singapore’s best bars will be gathering at Tippling Club for a heady night of cocktails

Cook & Brew has all-night happy hour deals on Fridays

Friday nights need not be expensive drinking affairs anymore with Cook & Brew's new happy hour deal—aptly called Friyay—that goes on from 5pm to 1am. While other bars often turn off the happy hour tap early into the night, Cook & Brew continues to offer house pour wines and beers at $10 nett per glass, cocktails from $12 nett per glass as well as bottle deals on Champagne ($88) and whisky (from $99).
