NASA: A Human Adventure

There’s finally a good reason to go a bit out of town to CentralPlaza Lardprao. NASA is here. Produced by John Nurminen Events in cooperation with NASA, the Kansas Cosmosphere and Space Center, and the U.S. Space and Rocket Center, this massive exhibition will showcase 350 space exploration-related objects, many of which were used in actual space mission. Highlights include the control panel of the Space Shuttle Atlantis, a G-force ride and astronaut suits through the decades. On top of replicas of Apollo Command Module and actual Titan 1 rocket engines, replicas of USSR technology will also be on show: the Sputnik satellite and lunar survey rover Lunokhod.

The Documentary Club – Doc Holiday

The Documentary Club will host special screenings of four award-winning documentaries over the next two months. Kicking off with a special screening on Nov 30, Finding Vivian Maier traces the mysterious life of the once-unknown street photographer Vivian Maier. Earning the Best Director’s Award from the Sundance Film Festival, The Case Against 8 follows two lawyers of conflicting political backgrounds who throw away their differences to fight for gay marriage rights. Winner of the Viewers’ Choice Awards from the Berlin Film Festival, The Circle looks at the relationship between a young teacher and musician, and the trials they overcome together. The final screening is Life Itself (watch the trailer), an Oscar 2015 front-runner about the late Roger Ebert, one of the world’s most renowned film critics. Chim Bangkok Charity Week 2014

This charity foodie event series, under the theme "The Destination of Gastronomy," brings together Michelin-starred chefs and local fine-dining masters, along with live music and wine. One of the highlights, Chim in the Garden on Dec 6, features acclaimed chefs such as David Thompson from Nahm, Jaikal Johari from Water Library, Nooror Somany Steppe from Blue Elephant, Ton Tassanakajohn from Le Du and Paolo Vitaletti from Appia. Royal Celebration Concert Jian Wang plays Dvorak

China's rising cello star Jian Wang performs Dvorak's romantic Cello Concerto. The Bangkok Symphony Orchestra will also be playing L'Arle'sienne Suites No. 1 & 2 by Bizet. The concert will open with "Lom Naw," written by HM the King.

Goethe Institut: Open Air Cinema

‘Tis the season to watch German films! The Goethe Institut of Thailand will be holding their annual outdoor film screenings starting this Dec 9 at 7:30pm. Aimed at showcasing contemporary German cinema, films will be screened weekly (in German with English subtitles) in a relaxed garden environment, all the way through Feb 17, 2015. Bangkok International Street Show

The lineup is still TBA at the moment, but given past years (2008-2010), you can expect top Thai and international performers to take over Lumpini park for a free, 3-day festival packed with mime, acrobatics, music and dancing. The trio Babymime should make a welcome return, miming and clowning their way to your funny bone. You can also expect Butoh performers, percussionists, Chinese acrobatic troops and nouveau cirque artists from Europe performing suspended dances. Wonderful Trash in Bangkok

Kyoto-based artist Ishida Shinya takes up a two-month artist residency, to be documented by filmmaker Yuya J. Morimoto. As well as an exhibition at the gallery, Shinya's mobile installation made out of trash will be traveling to various Bangkok locations.

4th Thailand International Half Marathon

With participants from 32 countries in last year's edition, this car-free road race marathon on elevated Boromratchonni Road starts and finishes at Rama 8 Bridge on the Thonburi side of the river. Night at the Museum: Awakening the Legend of Giant

The innovative, technology-driven Museum Siam opens its doors late again (4-10pm). The theme is Awakening the Legend of Giants. Expect three nights of giant-related fun, including story-telling by Keng The Voice, and other guest speakers, with activities, booths, food stalls and a giant-themed market, as well as an outdoor performance titled "The Spirit of Giant of Tha Tien".

Winter Jazz and Arts Festival

To be held on the fourth Saturday of every month from now until February 2015, the festival brings quality jazz performances by the best local acts, many from the Phra Athit bar Jazz Happens and The Voice, with art exhibitions from Silpakorn University, art and music workshops and plenty of other stalls.
