October is a month for sake, German beers, highballs, locally brewed craft beers and endless bottles of wines. Here's the lowdown on where to give your liver a workout.

There's a sake celebration

Bring out your inner Japanophile and celebrate World Sake Day, as Sentosa Golf Club holds their third annual Sake Day event, where you can enjoy more than 20 brands of sake and take part in activities which will be happening simultaneously both here and in Japan. Or you could check out the all-day sake promotions at Le Binchotan, including the ones from the new autumn menu, from today till Oct 1.

Exciting bar bites to line your stomach with

What happens when Singapore's dude food extraordinare teams up with tongue-in-cheek rooftop bar Loof? Why, a gluttonous, guilt-less menu of locally inspired bar bites, of course. And that's exactly what's on offer starting Oct 1. Take the Bacon Lollipop ($16), for example. It involves charred pancetta on a skewer and a maple syrup-y crust of groundnuts and pho herbs. The California Crackers ($14), too, strike a fun balance between fancy and trashy, in which crispy wonton chips get the California maki roll treatment: spicy mayo, nori, ebiko and avocado. Then, of course, there are late-night pleasures like the Bak Chor Mee Grilled Cheese ($18) and their own take on the ramly burger. 

Oktoberfest festitivies continue

Beer lovers, your annual excuse to glug pints of weizen and chow down on platters of sausage is here again. Oktoberfest (which, true fact, is celebrated in mid-September) is kicking off this weekend with parties at all the usual places. There’s Erdinger's Oktoberfest, happening across three different malls from now till Oct 28, a huge free-for-all Oktoberfest party at Clarke Quay Central from Oct 7-8 and more.

You can slurp boutique wines under a tent

Wine lovers, get ready for three days of swishing, swirling, sniffing and sipping, all in a pretty outdoor tent overlooking the water. The Straits Wine Company's annual outdoor extravaganza is happening again in October. This year's Wine Fiesta (Oct 20-23) has the theme Rising Roots, and will shine a spotlight on organic and sustainable wine producers from Adelaide Hills in Australia—along with nearly 70 other winemakers.

There's a new place for bourbon (and gumbo) lovers

There has been a lot of fussing about whisky lately, with a few specialty bars opening around town. It's about time bourbon got the same love. Bourbon Street on Club Street is a narrow, moody place with dim lights, exposed brick and industrial-style hanging lamps. The theme here, as you can imagine from the name, is New Orleans.

Japan's highball renaissance is here
