Yesterday, Popcat took the Thai internet by storm. The point of the game—if you want to call it that—is to make a cat’s mouth pop open by clicking on your screen, and scores are tallied by nations, so there’s a sense of camaraderie in attempting to take the top spot on the global leaderboard.

Today, a Thai developer has created a hyperlocal version of the game by replacing the image of a cat with one of Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha playing soccer (or football, if you must).

Dubbed Popyut, the game follows the same mechanisms: you poke, or pop, the PM with a click, and watch him tumble to the ground as he gets tackled.

The other difference between Popcat and Popyut is there’s no international scoreboard. The camaraderie ostensibly stems from knocking the PM down to the ground.

At the time of the publication, the click count was north of 17.5 million.

The game comes from the same developer who created the 120-day countdown clock for Prayuth’s promise to reopen the country. With daily Covid-19 cases now exceeding 20,000, the prospects of Thailand’s grand reopening in October look dim, but the internet never forgets.
