Mexicano (formerly Senor Pico)

About: This Mexican restaurant was one of the first in town, and include a live band and we-aim-to-please hotel service. While touches of Tex-Mex remain, the menu is now firmly "South of the border," meaning Mexican classics (fajitas, espetadas, tacos) and a few South Americans additions like Peruvian-inspired ceviche salads. The terra-cotta and stone decor is a fittingly cozy backdrop for the regular live bands playing Latin sounds.

Rang Mahal

About: We don’t just love Rang Mahal for chef Rajan Misra’s (with the restaurant for two decades) rich butter chicken, pillowy naan and other north Indian classics. No other Indian restaurant in Bangkok has the heritage or the views to match this ornately over-the-top hotel institution where the service is always impeccable.

Tori Tama

About: This Tokyo-born yakitori (chicken skewer) specialist prides itself on using virtually every part of the chicken, including delicacies like misaki (hen’s tail) and “chicken oyster” (the dark meat close to the thigh). The space resembles a sleek omakase sushi restaurant, with its open kitchen, blond-wood, U-shaped counter and glass display cases, while a little door near the entrance grants access to the next door sister sake bar, Orihara Shoten.

Blue Parrot

About: The backyard at Revolucion Cocktail and Clandestino Cantina has become Sathorn's tropical escape. Blue Parrot takes a more family-oriented route, opening from 11:30am six days a week to offer a brunch-y vibe amid trees and faux grass. On top of a bottle-shaped swimming pool and petanque strip, there's a dedicated play area to keep the little ones occupied.

The Missing Burro

About: From a shipping container-turned-kitchen, two Mexican brothers serve up traditional Yucatan cuisine to a sprinkling of tables in a peaceful garden. The panuchos de cochinita offer a true taste of the cuisine: corn tortillas filled with roasted pork marinated in achiote, sour orange and spices then cooked slowly within a banana leaf. Wash down your decadent gringa and delicious guacamole with a few too many frothy pisco sours.

100 Mahaseth

About: From a warm, rustic space just off Charoenkrung, chefs Chalee Kader (Surface, Holy Moly) and Randy Noprapa (Fillets) reward diners for taking the plunge into the world of local offcuts. Drawn heavily from Isaan and the north, dishes like the beef entrails in spicy soup and charcoal-roasted bone marrow really make you question all the fuss over premium meat—and have you coming back for more.

Pizza Massilia (Ruam Rudee)

About: Inspired by the Neapolitans who emigrated to France and the USA, Italian chef and restaurateur Luca Appino (La Bottega di Luca) takes a cross-continental approach to pizzas. Pumped out of massive ovens from Italy, the pizzas here are delicate and refined affairs that often bear extravagant toppings sourced from Italy and France—think mortadella, truffles and fior di latte.
