Fly low-cost to Myanmar on NewGen Airways’ (www.ngairways.com) just-launched, weekend route from Don Mueang to Myeik, a city on the Andaman coast.

Despite its beachy, peninsula location, Myeik’s maintained much of its local charm, so expect swarms of motorbikes and bustling markets. The city’s also kept its Sino-Portuguese architecture, a remnant of its identity as a port city in colonial times.

Day trips out to the 800 neighboring islands are encouraged—try the untrammeled Lampi island, famous for abundant marine life and biodiversity.
