1. It’s gone digital

Researching for your trip just got easier with the newly launched Visit Bhutan website that provides a whole bunch of useful information for travelers. It lets you filter through a list of must-visit attractions based on location, which is handy considering the country has no lack of picturesque fortresses and cliff-top monasteries. Make the most of your trip by referring to their events listings for the dates of the biggest festivals in Bhutan.

2. There are even more hotels

On top of villas that offer unbeatable mountain views, you’ll now have more accommodation options with two new Starwood hotels set to open in the next few months. Slated for a Christmas opening, The Le Meridien Thimphu comes with 78 rooms and will be located in the downtown Thimphu, serving as a perfect base for you to explore the kingdom of Bhutan. The second, Le Meridien Paro, will open in April with 59 rooms and will be near popular landmarks like the Buddhist monastery Rinpung Dzong. Find out more here.

3. There are festivals galore

If you’re trying to pick a time to visit, February should be high on your list. For starters, the international art and film festival will be held over 10 days (Feb 14-23) which will see art galleries and hotels showcasing various installations from Bhutanese artists. There’ll also be film screenings, including a daily outdoor movie screening under the stars. Music wise, there'll be nightly gigs happening around town with everything from Himalayan folk artists to international superstars. Plus, it’s also the King of Bhutan’s 35th birthday so you know there’ll be plenty of celebrating on the streets with the locals. Oh and if you're the active holiday type, there's a marathon happening during the same period. Head here for more info.
