Spanish hotel brand Meliá continues its Thailand expansion with a hotel on Phuket’s quiet Mai Khao beach.

The Meliá Phuket Mai Khao, opening Dec 1, offers 100 suites and villas, including 30 suites with outdoor bathtubs and cabanas, 55 pool villas, and 15 “wellness” pool villas. The wellness pool villas come with exclusive 60-minute massages each day, plus outdoor showers and bathtubs with aromatic salts, ultrasonic essential oil diffusers, air purifiers, Tempur-Pedic pillows, and more.

Even if you don’t splash out for a wellness pool villa with private massages, you can still treat yourself here. The wellness-focused facilities include a spa with five treatment rooms, a water garden and reflection pond, and three saltwater swimming pools, one of which has a swim-up bar.

In keeping with the brand’s Spanish roots, the design across the property is steeped in Mediterranean influences, from white stucco exterior walls to splashes of navy blue against a beach-toned palette. That influence goes further than the design, too.

The resort will have two restaurants, led by Gaia, a beach club that serves Mediterranean-inspired food from an open kitchen.

The property will technically mark the Meliá’s second in Thailand, joining the Meliá Koh Samui. The Meliá Chiang Mai, which BK previously wrote about, will open Dec 20, shortly after the Meliá Mai Khao debuts on Phuket.

Bookings are available from December onward, starting at B4,000/night for Meliá Rewards members. Currently, the resort is offering pre-opening rates of B5,000/night for the one-bedroom suites with outdoor bathtubs (includes breakfast).
