Cool off in style this summer at Central Embassy and Central Chidlom’s Songkran celebration
Featuring traditional activities, cultural workshops and delicious food.
The hottest month of the year is here, and that means it’s time for Songkran. This Apr 4-21, Central Embassy and Central Chidlom are bringing nostalgic New Year vibes with their tradition-filled festival, A Sense of Thai.
A bunch of entertaining activities are planned across many floors of Central Embassy, from mechanical elephant rides in the Elephant Village zone (where you can also donate money to help real elephants) to dressing up in traditional Thai outfits and taking photos in the picturesque Baan Thai pavilion. Stop by the Thai Town zone to learn how to weave palm leaves or to make an elephant keychain, or enjoy the spectacular Bangkok Lantern Festival light show, which will take place during the first 10 minutes of every hour daily.
Looking for unique gifts for your friends and family? Then head to the Bangkok Bazaar market, where you’ll find Thai souvenirs, or visit Sabai Jai Market on level 5 from Apr 10-17 for 30 stalls of contemporary Thai gifts. For a touch of luxury, be sure to drop by the Thai Heritage Market (level 2) by Heritage Fine Art & Jewelry from Apr 9-12, where you can learn how to make traditional nam ob in a Thai perfume workshop.
Culture seekers will also find plenty to explore, from paying respect to nine different Buddha images, to herbal inhaler and garland-making workshops. Moving up to level 3, there will be Khon (traditional Thai masked dance) performances on Apr 13-14 at 1-3pm, as well as Muay Thai performances and classy Thai puppetry on Apr 12-16.
When hunger strikes, check out the special Songkran menus from various restaurants and make sure you visit OPEN HOUSE, where diners will be offered a B100 voucher for every B800 spent at Open House eateries. To feast on refreshing local delicacies like royal khao chae while watching Thai dance performances, be sure to hit up Eathai.
Other activities include walking through Summer Breeze Passage—a tunnel made from thousands of flying kites—bathing a Buddha statue brought from a temple in Ayutthaya, and cooling off with ice-cold slushies at Food Loft from Apr 1-30.
Exclusive! Get the chance to win a luxury two-night stay at Baba Beach Club Hua Hin when you spend B5,000 at Central Embassy.
