8 markets to stuff your face and pockets at this September
A rare books sale, farmers markets and a massive ArtBox-type affair
Forget about taking it slow on your spending in September; the first weekend is all systems go with a book sale from local publisher Ethos Books, a sustainability market, and a two-day bash of food and trinkets over at Wheeler's Estate. But don't spend your money all in one weekend—you'll want to save up for the inaugural CMYK market, a 500-booth affair on the same scale as everyone's favorite ArtBox.
No ordinary farmers’ market, this one-day fair by local sustainability group Ground-Up Initiative (GUI) aims to inculcate a zero-waste lifestyle. It might be a lot to ask in one day, but you can take baby steps with the various upcycling workshops and talks happening—like one on DIY terrariums, soap-making, and learning about plant-based diets—plus a film screening of Plastic China. At the marketplace, sip on vegan coffees, grab plant-based food, and shop organic produce and natural toiletries from brands like The Sustainability Project, The LaLa Lokal and more. Conscious living in Singapore could be easier than you think.

The idyllic Wheeler’s Estate at Seletar Aerospace Park is throwing a weekend market filled with food, music and shopping. Start off with a yoga sesh, grab a bite, then pick up a trinket or two from local vendors and crafters like The Paper Elf, Styledbybubs, Kikiko Organics and In-Trigue.

Save your dollar dollar bills and spend them on rare and soon-to-be out-of-print books, at Ethos Books’ first-ever, week-long book sale. From weighty classics to non-fiction reads, to poetry and local literature, every title will be going at a flat rate of $2; selected Ethos books will be half off. Head down early; you can bet there’ll be bookworm nuts bagging books by the kilo.

It seems like just yesterday ArtBox packed up and left, and the Bayfront event space was finally empty for once. In the blink of an eye, the waterfront space is turning (back) into a flea market of 500 booths from Singapore, Thailand, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Vietnam and Indonesia. There will also be a beer garden, live music, and Instagram-friendly photo walls. Sounds familiar?
Where: 12A Bayfront Avenue
Music and roasts are the main event at Camp Kilo’s next party, but there’ll also be a pop-up marketplace featuring eclectic vendors like OnPoint Designs, which hand-makes and retails traditional and modern African-inspired accessories. Afterwards, celebrate the party series’ first anniversary with a line-up of dancehall and afrobeats by Singapura Dub Club.
