Oenophiles will want to check out the slew of wine appreciation classes and dinners on offer in May.

There’s a variety of vino-related events on this month including sessions on unconventional wine pairings and dinners by boutique wine houses.  

Wine workshop The Wine Apprentice—Asian Food Pairing is on May 3 at il Cielo. The interactive class will teach you to pair Asian flavors with red and white wines. Over the course of the session, expect to taste five vinos and canapés.

Then, there’s the Penfolds Re-Corking Clinic (May 9) at The St Regis, organized by noted wine producer Penfolds. The wine tasting session will teach attendees how to quality-check and re-cork wines (which are 15 years and older) as well as receive valuation for their wines.

At the five-course Vidal Estate Wine Dinner (May 10) at Shutters, hosted by Charlotte Read, the Asia Marketing Manager for Vidal Wines, learn about the noted Hawkes Bay boutique winery while sampling dishes like oriental cured hamachi crudo alongside Vidal Sauvignon Blanc 2012 and Boston lobster bisque with Vidal Chardonnay 2012. 

After that, there’s the Passopisciaro Wine Dinner (May 14) at il Cielo, where you can get educated about Sicilian wines while dining with winemaker Letizia Patanè. The meal includes homemade pappardelle with braised lamb shank paired with Passopisciaro IGT Sicily red wine 2011, as well as herb-filled involtini with pine nuts alongside Contrada G IGT Sicily red wine 2011. Expect a total of four food courses and five wines.

Also check out wine bazaar the Wine Voyage @ Audi Fashion Festival (May 15-19) at the F1 Pit Building, where you can sip wines from The Straits Wine Company alongside nibbles by private caterer My Private Chef and Peranakan restaurant Violet Oon’s Kitchen while mingling with a crowd of fashion models and editors.
