Serving up American-style sandwiches during the day, El Osito (888/23-24 Mahatun Plaza, Ploenchit Rd., Bangkok, 02-651-4399) transforms into a tapas bar at night. More understated than its sister restaurant La Monita (situated next door), the interior here is mostly bare concrete, accented by red feature walls and an image of a matador looming large in one corner. The lunch menu covers salads, pizzas and sandwiches, like the monstrous Rueben (B250), filled to the brim with homemade corned beef. After sundown, they recommend dishes like gambas a la plancha (grilled prawns, B155) and paella negra (squid ink paella, B800) to share over drinks.
