[SPONSORED] Singapore’s love affair with salted egg has found its way on to potato chips, eggs benedict and most recently, inside high-end croissants. It was only a matter of time before our #1 foodie obsession collided with our other hot favorite: Thai food.
The all-new menu of Songkran specials at Singapore's homegrown ThaiExpress features a salted egg extravaganza that’s great for sharing and—before you ask—with no added MSG. Executed by a Thai chef at over 20 branches, the Savouring Songkran menu also has some refreshing, summertime classics, too.
Deep-fried rings of squid slathered in a rich, golden, eggy sauce are a regular on hipster zi char menus these days, but this one has a Thai twist: the salted egg yolk sauce here—made from scratch, in-house—is spiked with aromatic basil leaves.
If you’re a fan of Thai food, you know that no one deep-fries chicken wings with a touch as light (and subtly spiced) as the Thais. The only thing that could make it better is a drizzle basil-infused salted egg yolk sauce.
Fans of spice and crunch, pay special attention. The Songkran Platter has all your favorites: a summery green mango salad with a lime-fish sauce dressing and sides of fresh cucumber, French beans and nuts to balance the heat. Need more oomph? The platter also comes with spicy and herb-laden fish cakes, lime chicken wings and—of course—boiled salted eggs.
Possibly one of the prettiest desserts under $10, the Coco Delight is a summertime Thai classic—two scoops of coconut ice cream served in the husk and topped with sweet green lod chong noodles, crunchy and gelatinous red ruby (also made on-premises with water chestnuts), jackfruit and nuts. Don’t forget to #ThaiExpressSG, when uploading your dessert photos on Instagram.
Wash it all down with a refreshing concoction made with mint, lime, soda and lots of ice.
Need more reason to treat yourself? Here's another. Spend a minimum of $50 in a single receipt at any of ThaiExpress’s restaurants islandwide to qualify to win a 4D3N Discover Amazing Thailand experience for two people to Koh Samui and Chiang Mai, sponsored by Tourism Authority of Thailand (Singapore office) and Bangkok Airways.
