Less than a week after opening in Bangkok without its signature beef, U.S. Tex-Mex chain Taco Bell looks set to right that wrong after a sustained social media backlash.

Posting on his personal Instagram page, Thai franchise owner Chalermchai “Kueng” Mahagitsiri thanked customers for their interest and vowed to reinstate beef on the menu.

The post read, “Taco Bell Thailand is currently in the process of selecting beef that meets our high standards. I will update everyone again soon.”

After six months of building hype, Taco Bell first threw open its doors to long queues at MercuryVille mall on Jan 24. However, it didn't take long for Bangkok fans to rage on social media after discovering the chain would be using chicken and pork rather than beef in its trademark tacos.

With Taco Bell's official accounts inundated with comments irate fans, the franchise's official line was that beef was left off the menu after "extensive market research."

Taco Bell, G/F, MercuryVille, 540 Phloen Chit Rd. Open daily 10am-10pm. BTS Chidlom.
