Patriotic menus and dinner deals to get you in the mood for National Day 2016
For a country that lives to eat, there can be few better ways to celebrate National Day than with a delicious meal.
Nothing says patriotism on National Day like chowing down on all your favorite Singaporean foods. There's plenty of that and a whole lot else (not to mention some exciting drink deals and even burger deals) ahead. Here are the National Day 2016 menus and deals to catch.
Clarke Quay’s resident burger experts are serving the special Little Red Dot Burger, inspired by satay ayam: grilled chicken patty with crunchy cucumber, red onions, caramelized pineapple and a ginger-peanut. On National Day itself, there’s a $35 set menu that includes the aforementioned special burger, straight-cut fries seasoned with curry powder and the SG Fling (inspired by you-know-which drink).
While the National Day Parade takes place at the National Stadium this year, CÉ LA VI remains one of the best vantage points for the fireworks and flypast. Take it all in with their National Day Tasting menu ($268 per person, available Aug 9) which includes fresh oysters with Granny Smith Apple and yuzu dressing, grilled red snapper and sambal oelek, and braised pork belly with bok choy, mushroom and star anise. Too much to fork out? Their Majulah National Day Fiesta at the lounge starts at noon and goes late, with a special menu of things like BBQ char siew pork ribs ($18 for five) and crispy mantou with chilli crab ($12 for three).
Five restaurants in the Emmanuel Stroobant Group will be serving up a Singapore-inspired dish as part of their National Day celebrations, but the highlight is Saint Pierre’s babi buah keluak made with iberico pork on their set lunch menu (from $58, available until Aug 13).
There are some great drink deals at the Fairmont restaurants: most excitingly Anti:dote is offering cocktails and tapas at 51% off for the first round of drinks, if you come in a group of two to eight people and order between 5pm and midnight. Local classics restaurant Kopi Tiam has a deal on a bucket of Tigers for.
It’s your last chance to catch Town Restaurant’s River Hawker Festival. Sign up for the dinner buffet that covers iconic dishes from 10 celebrated hawkers around the island. There’s Riyan Hidayat soto ayam, Geylang Serai Indian rojak and more. The price per adult is, you guessed it, $51.
If you’re heading to Sentosa, check out the one-day-only menu at Sofitel Singapore Sentosa’s Italian restaurant. It’s $68 for lunch and $88 for dinner, and covers dishes like tagliolini pasta with Hokkaido scallops and sea urchin sauce and beef tenderloin with bone marrow crust.
The celebrity restaurants at MBS are rolling out special dishes for National Day. db Bistro is doing “burgers of independence” and the Singapore version is made with a cheddar and Tiger beer bun and served alongside a coconut-jackfruit sundae. Cut by Wolfgang Puck is doing a two-course set menu priced at $51 and a three-course for $65. Either way, try the kaya toast Baked Alaska.
Flutes at the National Museum has a festively-priced $51 dinner menu (available until Aug 31) which features cream of mushroom soup, fillet of barramundi and carrot cake (of the dessert variety).
We’re getting used to drinking good booze at hawker centers these days, so it was only a matter of time before hawker-themed cocktails popped up. Try the alcoholic incarnations of teh-o, limau ice, kopi-c, and ice kacang ($14 each) along with chicken satay, popiah and kueh pie tee ($12 each) at this bar at Hotel Jen Tanglin Singapore (available until Oct 31).
Cantonese restaurant Yàn is giving their dim sum menu a local twist with pan-fried chili crab meat buns, steamed xiao long bao with bak kut teh soup, and Nanyang prawn soup dumplings (available until Aug 31).
