Forget the distance: it’s all free.

With restaurants forced to close their dining rooms, survival for many has depended on take-out orders and app-based food delivery. But many restaurant owners have cited surge pricing for commissions, with many apps taking up to 35 percent from each order, as very real threats to their ability to make it through this crisis.

Now one app is axing those fees.

On July 11, Robinhood, a delivery app launched by Siam Commercial Bank (SCB), said it would waive all delivery fees regardless of distance from July 11-25 to alleviate the burden the partial lockdown has placed on restaurants and consumers.

Although the app initially offered free delivery no matter how far away the orders were from restaurants, this morning Robinhood announced it would limit free deliveries to within a 10km radius of the restaurant you order from. The move was in response to complaints of application errors due to the high demand and limited numbers of riders.
