New restaurant Bar-Roque Grill is now open at the Amara Hotel helmed by chef Stephane Istel (formerly of the Daniel Boulud Group).

New French restaurant Bar-Roque Grill is now open at the Amara Hotel.

Started by chef Stephane Istel (formerly of the Daniel Boulud Group), the dining spot offers dishes such as tart flambee (from $12), as well as a range of meats cooked on a high power electric rotisserie called a Rotisol including French free range chicken (from $20/half) and pork knuckle ($58 for two).

Describing the baroque aesthetic that inspired the eatery, chef Istel says, “It’s about good produce, not touched too much, available at an affordable price. We just want to create a fun ambiance at the restaurant. Asian people love to share food and I’m doing sharing meals Western-style.”

The establishment will also start offering takeaway meals in a few weeks. Chef Istel explains, “In France it’s very common to go out and takeaway a chicken to eat at home. It's very much part of the French mentality. It does take quite a bit of time to do a chicken at home, around two hours. So there’s great potential. Also, we already see some of the finer supermarkets selling chicken. They are doing very well and sell out by 5pm. As for the tart flambee, it’s already like a pizza, just an Alsatian version.”
