We’re well into Thailand’s Vegetarian (Jeh) Festival, so we thought it would be a good idea to keep you in touch with all the best bites for you vegans and vegetarians out there.
 

Arito Japanese Vegetarian Fusion

The manager of this restaurant went to Japan to learn about Japanese cuisine and came back to open a cozy restaurant with her family. The menu offers homemade udon soups, sushi salads, and desserts. All the food is vegan, but some of the drinks contain milk. Order the inari (B90) and give their ruby nigiri (B90)  a go (a rendition of salmon nigiri), their zaru udon (B190)  is very popular and is served chilled alongside intense tsuyu sauce. Their Tofu Bomb (B90) also packs a punch. Be sure to save some room for their daifuku.

Bonita Cafe and Social Club

Run by a Thai-Japanese couple, this welcoming, vintage-style café has become a meeting spot for the runners of Lower Silom. They sell Muteki running shoes imported from Japan (starting at B1,800), but the real focus is on vegetarian and vegan delights, from a seitan burger (B200) to raw zucchini pasta (B180). There’s a long list of shakes and coffee, too. Service can be a little slow, but that gives you more time to kick back amid the retro charm.

Broccoli Revolution

With three locations, this socially conscious, eco-friendly fast-casual plant-based eatery and smoothie cold-pressed juice bar has taken the plant-based scene in Bangkok by storm. They have a diverse menu of dishes ranging from Italy and South America to neighboring countries such as Myanmar, Vietnam, and, of course, Thailand. There is vegan chia seed pad thai (B180), kaphrao with plant-based protein (B180), the cheese burrito supreme (B240), broccoli quinoa charcoal burger (B290), and the spaghetti quinoa ball (B25). Be sure to try vegan ice cream in collaboration with Hebe plant bar with flavors such as nutty nirvana shake (B210) and cherry cheesecake shake (B195).

Canes

Canes is dedicated to crafting fine-dining plant-based food, embodying the principles of their acronym “canes”: cruelty-free, altruistic, natural, evolutionary, and sustainable. Their team comprises scientists and chefs specializing in food science, microbiology, and fermentation, driving culinary innovation. Located in Muangthon Thani, Canes offers a 14-course vegan tasting menu paired with six expertly crafted mocktails every weekend. Notably, their menu evolves weekly to incorporate the freshest local ingredients. For a more casual dining experience, the Health Land Pradit Manutham location features an a la carte menu along with homemade products like eggs, cheeses, sauces, roe, butter, and bread.

Chamlong Market   

It's a fully vegetarian food market near Chatuchak market with lots of local vendors selling authentic Thai food at incredibly affordable prices (each dish costs just B10-30). There’s no better place in Bangkok to sample a variety of cheap local vegan food like kuay teow lui suan (fresh garden rolls), por pia sot (thin pancakes with a brown soy sauce), pad thai with vermicelli noodles, or even hoi tod (oysters fried, which aren’t real oysters).

Chijuya  

Chijuya offers an array of vegetarian and predominantly Japanese dishes. Their menu offers everything from sushi to mock meats and seafood, not to mention their classic vegan sashimi (B120). Their standout recommendations include the rainbow onigiri (B150) and ebi temaki (B50), which are full of flavor and makes you feel like you’re not missing out on non-vegan foods. They also offer a range of mains featuring noodles, rice bowls, and comforting soups. We recommend the Sizzling Fried Pork with Black Pepper (B200) or the Crispy Duck (B200).

Eat Co

Get ready for the ultimate vegan comfort food at Eat Co. The eatery began in 2014 Koh Phangan before opening up their Phrom Phong shop in Bangkok. The spot recently made headlines with a veggie burger that weighs in at 3.7kg and measures 12 inches across with plant-based Swiss cheese and a house-made vegan bun. Be sure to order this vegan burger 48 hours beforehand. If you’re interested in veggie burgers but don’t want to commit to eating a small baby’s worth of plant-based meat, you can also check out their So Mush’room burger or their Beyond Meat Bun in a Million burger.

Golden State Vegan

This is full-on vegan Japanese-California fusion cuisine in Ekkamai 12. The restaurant fuses traditional Japanese aesthetics and flavors with Californian cooking. Boasting an award-winning plant-based sushi bar and a variety of cocktails, their menu features innovative dishes such as the Sushi Mountain, the Volcano (B480), King Crab Paradise (B480), and the Lobster Tornado (B480) that are stuffed with a bunch of veggie goodness and topped with generous amounts of sauce. Don't miss their izakaya offerings, which include Tokyo Fry Tofu (B240), Yuzu Cashew Chicken (B240), and Roasted Shishito (B240). These are all bite-sized dishes that are best enjoyed over a cocktail (or two). Don’t forget to join them during happy hour, running nightly from 10pm to midnight (except Tuesdays). The intimate yet airy space, adorned with antique wood and handcrafted ceramic tiles along with strategically placed neon lights, brings out a psychedelic and fun dining setting.

Craving vegan Thai noodles? Look no further than this charming, family-owned, hole-in-the-wall gem. Nestled away from the bustling streets, this shop serves up homemade vegan noodles. There's khao soi (B129), Sukhothai noodle soup (B99), tom yum noodles (B99), red pork noodles (B89), and more. They also make their own mock meat. The portions here harken back to the days of small Thai noodle bowls, offering an authentic touch. In our book, this place stands out as a little hidden veggie treasure.

May Veggie Home

Serving 100 percent vegan food since 2011, this peaceful alcove on busy Ratchadaphisek Road has long been a favorite spot among the city’s health-focused crowd. It specializes in regional dishes, like plant-based pad kaphrao moo sab (B139), somtam platters with crunchy tofu sticks (B89), and kanom jeen (B139). There’s a small selection of burgers and Japanese dishes on the menu, too.

Mia Restaurant 

Skilled chef duo Michelle Goh, last year’s Best Young Chef at Top Tables, and Pongcharn “Top” Russell provide an exceptional five-course Vegan and Vegetarian European and Asian tasting menu. There's something for everyone, from the chickpea puffs and ratatouille to the printed open ravioli and roasted provencal vegetables. For your tipple, don’t forget to check out Behind the Curtain menu, a dark, stylish booze cave. The two-story home has a glass-encased kitchen and bar area, all of which are furnished with gilded geometric wallpaper and brass accents.

Vivin Grocery has always been the go-to shop for Thai cheese in Bangkok, and now Vivin Grocery is bringing you a new vegan cheese platter made with locally sourced Thai ingredients and a vegan menu with baguette sandwiches, warm cheese salad, and more. To fit best with the authentic Jeh spirit, the platter does not contain any garlic or spring onions.

Plantiful, originally a delivery-only and meal plan service focused on 100% plant-based dishes, opened a cafe on Sukhumvit 61 this year. The owner, a UCLA graduate, aims to bring the healthy, plant-based culture of Los Angeles to Bangkok. The cafe serves hearty, vegan meals like the Bibi Bowl (B26), featuring spinach, shiitake mushrooms, bean sprouts, carrots, cucumbers, and rice berry with bibimbap dressing. Another veggie option is the baked zucchini and eggplant lasagna (B345), layered with house-made cashew nut cheese and marinara, offering a taste close to the original. Be sure to save some room for their freshly baked pastries or their ice cream in collaboration with hebe plant bar with flavors like breakfast banana split (B220) and fudge brownie sundae (B220).

Sri Ganesha Restaurant

Sri Ganesha is a simple, no-frills place that serves comforting authentic southern Indian food, serving a variety of dosa. We recommend the onion rava dosa with ghee (B140) or their butter masala dosa (B120). Also, try their dal vada (B150), which are crispy lentil fritters, and their fluffy idly (B130) rice cakes with either lentil broth or a clear sour and tangy soup. Some say they also have the best mango lassi in Bangkok.

Sugam South Indian Vegetarian Restaurant

This hidden gem of a restaurant is an absolute must-visit for lovers of Indian cuisine, especially those with a love for South Indian flavors. The Sunday unlimited thali is a bonus! They have many different breads and sauces to choose from, and don't forget to try their medu vada fried donut appetizer, onion rava (B100), masala dosa (B80), and chopati with rajma masala (B60).
